With golden helmets and soaring sarissas, the small Macedonian phalanx advances uphill. Carlo Zoli recalls the particular formation of the army of the Kingdom of Macedonia, introduced by the father of Alexander the Great, the ruler Philip II. The warriors are compact and united, ready to face the enemy, but in Zoli’s pottery they have neither arms nor shields, their bodies are enclosed in strange armor with metallic reflections and look like soulless androids. From ancient times, the artist’s imagination takes a leap forward in the world of science fiction and fantasy, focusing on the moment when the battle advances. He has created a battalion of aliens or time travelers, without saying where they are headed or stating their purpose. War is senseless but man is always ready to find a way to justify it.
